How this works (the honest bit).
The frequency is better established than most things on this network: most healthy adults defecate somewhere between three times a day and three times a week, which averages out near once a day, and we use 1.2 to allow for the long tail. We assume about five minutes a time, which is sitting rather than strictly defecating. That puts roughly 34 million people indisposed at any moment. The mass follows from an average stool weight, and is a rough figure - the figure at the top is a count of people, and the tonnage is a flourish. Every figure on this page is a model built from population data, each country's local clock and the assumptions above. It is an estimate, it moves every second, and at least one of them is certainly true.
